Rohinton Mistry
Family Matters
Born in Bombay in 1952, Rohinton Mistry emigrated to
Toronto in 1975. He worked for ten years in a bank, studying English
and philosophy part-time at the University of Toronto. His first novel, Such
a Long Journey (1991), was shortlisted for the 1991 Booker Prize
and was awarded the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book.
His second novel, A Fine Balance (1996), was again shortlisted
for the 1996 Booker Prize, and won the Commonwealth Writers Prize for
Best Book.
