Elena Poniatowska, Here's to You, Jesusa!

Elena Poniatowska Amor, of Polish and Mexican descent, was born in France in 1932, but has lived in Mexico since 1942 and has became a Mexican citizen in 1969. She began her career as a journalist in Mexico, and has been the first woman to be honored with the national award for journalism, in 1969.

She is one of Mexico's most widely translated writers. Here's to you, Jesusa, Hasta no verte Jesús mio, Nothing, Nobody and Massacre in Mexico are among her best known books.
