Elena Poniatowska, Here's to You, Jesusa! Elena Poniatowska Amor, of Polish and Mexican descent, was born in France in 1932, but has lived in Mexico since 1942 and has became a Mexican citizen in 1969. She began her career as a journalist in Mexico, and has been the first woman to be honored with the national award for journalism, in 1969. She is one of Mexico's most widely translated writers.
